Ya Dong
(Pipa)

was born in Shanghai and is considered one of China's
best Pipa players.

She has been playing since she was six years old and gave
her first solo concert at the age of 13.

Dong Ya's great talent matured during her studies at the Shanghai Conservatory (1979-1983), where she was subsequently employed as a professor.

In 1982 she was awarded the National Prize for
"soloists on Chinese instruments".

She has been living in Germany since 1987, where she first performed privately and later on gave an increasing number
of public solo concerts broadcastet in radio and television.

As a member of the Gu-Feng Ensemble she performes thoughout Germany and Europa,
attracting considerable attention.

In her collaboration with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonics, the Munich Philharmonics, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Netherlands Opera Orchestra, she works beyond her traditional repertoire,
thus building an international reputation.

She started performing with Ensemble Sarband in 2008.
