Jean Walther
(santur, percussion, shawm, bagpipes,
nay, viella)

was born in Leipzig.

He took guitar lessons with his father, a well known rock musician. With Michael Metzler he studied European percussion, with Said Balaha and
Majd Talab Mid-Eastern percussion.

After, he studied santur with Nandu Mulai, music theory and medieval performance practice
with Vladimir Ivanoff.

Jean Walther is a member of SARBAND since 1994.

Apart from that, he performs with several other established medieval and world music ensembles.
